7/7 Ten Years On
7/7 - Ten years ago today.
I pushed my way past other commuters to make sure I got the last seat on the train to work. I felt 'smug' satisfaction about that! A few minutes later as the train was about to enter Edgware Rd tube station everything went black, there was a huge whooshing sound and the train felt as if it was about to derail. I felt as if these were my last moments of my life... After the dust had settled - there was a moment of silence, which very soon became screams, pain and anguish.
I had no idea at that time there had been a terrorist attack with the bomb exploding just metres away from my carriage (I was sitting just behind the driver). One of the first explanations given by the authorities was that a 'power surge' had occurred - who could have imagined what was about to unfurl on that day?
Even after ten years on it just seems like yesterday. It is an episode I will never forget - but I will also never take for granted every moment of life that I have remaining and the wonderful experiences I have cherished since then.
In memory of those who were killed and injured on that horrific day. 7/7. I'm lucky to be here!
