In a recent study, a research team from the University of Missouri determined that physical inactivity is the leading cause of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and obesity. Reducing activity from 10,000 steps a day to less than 5,000 was correlated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes based on reduction in insulin sensitivity.
In July 2011 research in the British Journal of Cancer demonstrated that high levels of body fat around the waist has the strongest effect on the sex hormones that increase breast cancer risk in women, even more so than smoking and drinking alcohol.
Stay active and eat well to fend off disease.
