Playout: PRIMALity Decathlon (First 5 Events)

We had an informal decathlete event yesterday very loosely based on the Olympic event but with a playful and primal flavour.

"It's great to spectate and live our lives through other's achievements, but it's even better to participate and achieve your own expectations." - Me

Events:

100m Sprint

110m (Bench Jump) Hurdles

100m Fireman Carry

Wall Vault

Weightlifting (overhead press - no equipment required)

I read a newspaper article about how little effort a 100m sprint takes in comparision to an endurance run.  Well I think most of us who ran an ALL OUT sprint yesterday will tell you that the recovery time of 5-10 minutes afterwards was more than intense enough to deal with.

Workshop: PRIMALity 1 Day (London) - 1 Sep 2012

PRIMALity Workshop

1 Day PRIMALity Workshop - Sat Sept 1, 2012

Delivered by Darryl Edwards, founder of Fitness Explorer Training & Nutrition

This one day workshop is an introduction to primal, natural movement and play.  A philosophy which I define as PRIMALity.

Movement which is:

Playful, Restorative, Instinctive, Mindful, Adaptive,
Life-giving, Integrative, Tactical and Youthful

The workshop is designed to improve real, practical movement skills that will assist you in performing everyday, recreational and extraordinary physical tasks more efficiently and effectively.

We will discuss:

What is (and isn't) Natural Movement?
What makes someone fit (and healthy)?
Functional vs Practical Training
Specificity vs Generality
Introduction to Barefoot Running
Designing your own workouts
Optimal Nutrition for Humans (Paleo/Primal)

Practical Participation - will include:

Locomotive Work & Play:- (bipedal and quadrupedal) movement drills and variations (including squatting, crawling, walking, running, sprinting, climbing, jumping)
Object Work & Play:- (including lifting, carrying, balancing, throwing)
Context Work & Play:- (social and imaginative)
No Equipment Required:- (individual and partner-based fitness)
Primal Work inside and outside the gym
Be strong & be useful drills
Isometric & Isomotion drills

After completion of this workshop you will have a basic understanding of natural movement and primal play and it's unique approach to improving your fitness, health and well-being.  You will also learn how to introduce PRIMALity principles into your life and how to structure your workouts to suit your individual goals.

PRIMALity workshop

This workshop is open to all, regardless of fitness level, age, gender or ability.

This workshop will be a 25% Theory, 75% Practical spread throughout the day.  Participation is actively encouraged for all physical activities but is of course optional.  We will scale activities and adapt training to suit individual participants based on injury or previous lack of activity.

Participants need to bring: water, lunch, clothing for outdoor work (weather permitting) and an open-mind.
Location: Sulgrave Club, Ravenscourt Park, West London

Nearest Tubes: Ravenscourt Park or Stamford Brook Tube Stations, free parking is also available.
