The Hidden Plague
Although I don't have Hidradenitis Suppurativa I have suffered from chronic dermatitis and so empathise with making visits to several dermatologists and health professionals all telling me that diet has no influence on my particular skin affliction. Well of course now I know differently!
Autoimmune disorders cover a vast array of conditions - some of the most common include rheumatoid arthritis, Grave's disease, psoriasis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). With "
The Hidden Plague" - Tara's honesty, suggestions, research and personal experience demonstrate how foods can trigger autoimmune disorders through leaky gut leading to systemic inflammation but most importantly provides some welcome solutions on tackling the potential root causes - I wish a guide like this was available for me when I needed it many years ago!
Here's a few reasons why I enjoyed this book:
- What to eat, what not to eat (and most importantly - why!);
- How to determine potential trigger foods and personalise your diet;
- A comprehensive review on the role (and importance) of hormones when it comes to health;
- The importance of keeping track of your condition by maintaining a health journal (with a useful appendix provided);
- Why conventional treatments don't work and can be more painful then the condition itself!;
- A great external resource section;
- Useful tips to tackle any setbacks you may face;
- a well written piece of work!
I really enjoyed reading this book, thanks Tara for this resource - highlighting the importance of food as medicine!
